A New Era for the Sorcerer Supreme
The Marvel Universe has introduced a new Sorcerer Supreme, marking the beginning of a new chapter in a role that has been most famously associated with characters like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch. The title of Sorcerer Supreme is not just a superhero designation; it represents the primary magical defense within the Marvel Universe. This role requires a powerful magical figure to protect an entire dimension from threats such as multidimensional incursions and rogue deities like Dormammu and Nightmare. Additionally, the Sorcerer Supreme must manage the delicate balance of cosmic debt, handle the severe toll of spellcraft, and serve as the main arbiter of magical laws.
Equipped with the authority of the Vishanti and artifacts like the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, the Sorcerer Supreme safeguards the fragile boundaries of reality. However, this mantle has not always been handled with responsibility. During the Blood Hunt crisis, Doctor Strange’s desperate concession allowed Doctor Doom to take the title. Later, when Doom’s global dictatorship collapsed, Scarlet Witch rescued the title. Wanda Maximoff’s abilities, rooted in reality-warping Chaos Magic rather than traditional sorcery, made her tenure unique and challenging for the rigid rules of the Vishanti.
Introducing Turin the Quantumancer

When Turin first appears, he remarks, “It’s the Great Above!” referring to the regular universe that every major Marvel character inhabits as a higher plane of existence. Turin’s regal attire and turquoise magic make an immediate impression, signaling his importance in the upcoming events involving the Extinction King and Wanda Maximoff’s time as Sorcerer Supreme.
The Forgotten Dimensions
Marvel has largely overlooked the concept of dimensional Sorcerer Supremes throughout the decades. While the main Marvel continuity has followed the chronological successors to Agamotto on Earth-616, the vast majority of the multiverse’s dimensions and planes remain unexplored in terms of their mystical defenders. Figures like Clea from the Dark Dimension and Illyana Rasputin (Magik) from Limbo have become part of Earth-616’s primary dimension, leaving their respective dimensions behind.
There are numerous bizarre Marvel dimensions that could have their own hidden Sorcerer Supreme figures. Realities like the corporate-hellscape of the Mojoverse or the biological chaos of the Cancerverse offer ideal environments for highly specialized arcane wardens who must adapt their spellcraft to match the unique physical laws of their environments. A Sorcerer Supreme of the Mojoverse might weaponize meta-textual elements, while a survivor of the Cancerverse could pose a threat to Earth-616 by wielding the power of their corrupted reality, similar to the Extinction King.
